Filament Winding

For rotationally symmetrical components - high mechanical properties, economical and scalable

Wound components from CONNOVA differ from conventional components by their extremely good mechanical properties, attractive component costs and, their process-safe scalability for large-scale production. CONNOVA filament winding technology enables a perfect and load compatible laminate for a wide variety of geometries on components. This achieves a very light construction with the highest strength and stiffness. Ideal for highly stressed components where a long service life is required.

The endless glass or carbon fibres are mechanically impregnated in a resin bath and placed on a rotating mandrel by CNC-controlled machines. The completely automated manufacturing process guarantees absolute reproducibility and the highest quality of series components. In addition, the winding technology, also known as filament winding, is extremely economic thanks to low contract manufacturing costs and minimal waste of expensive materials as with conventional fibre composite processes.

Component solutions are manufactured with absolute precision and in high quantities, thanks to optimally automated and customisable production. It is primarily suitable for the production of rotationally symmetrical components such as pipes, shafts, beams or containers.

Compared to CFRP components made of woven fabrics, wound components weigh 20% less and achieve the same mechanical properties. The method is characterised by its high accuracy and good reproducibility. The processes can be largely automated and produce highly economical reproducible components - even in small series.

Winding machine

A winding machine consists of a turning device for the tool mandrel, thread guide and thread storage and a resin bath that moves back and forth along the axis of rotation. With a revolutionary winding machine from the German world market leader "Roth Industrie", CONNOVA offers a stable and fail-safe component supply, especially for large series production of 10,000-100,000 components per year. Due to the new process data monitoring system, an excellent process capability level is achieved so that new markets & applications can be addressed, which could not be developed by means of existing technology.
