Wet Lamination Process

For single parts and very small batch sizes

The wet lamination process can be used for the cost-effective manufacture of components in simple shapes. However, the material properties in the wet lamination process are not as good as with other processes. The large proportion of manual production requires well-trained specialists and careful quality control.

Strengths of the wet lamination process:

  • cost-effective production
  • use of simple molds
  • little systems engineering required
  • manufacture of small and very large components
  • suitable as an on-site repair method

In traditional wet lamination, the fiber layers are cut to size manually and laid in the mold. Every layer is soaked with the matrix and pressed (lamination). Then the entire laminate is sealed, usually under a vacuum bag, and the surplus resin is drawn off. This improves the laminate properties. Hardening takes a few hours, usually at room temperature. After removal from the mold, the components are post-cured in a furnace which increases their temperature-resistance.
